I personally don't like those! The bass has a tubie sound to it. I was at car toys this past weekend and they had a few good woofer pkgs on sale (wedge box, woofer, and amp) from $250 to $350

If you want to go with something a lil more in price, look into the stealth box from JL Audio! Good clean bass and clean look!

I say no go on the bazooka!

not exactly sure where yer located in Socal, but Eric from "Sierra Paint and Body" in santa clarita does an awesome work for either oem or full custom paint from old hot rod to highly exotic vehicles.

ive had custom audio to oem on my previous vehicles, yet it all depends on what you want it to do. do you want to compete in audio i.e., loud or showoff yer set up? or something to where you can enjoy listening to quality sounds with seperating the high, mid and lows?

after all in the past, i like my oem HU (head unit, i.e. stereo unit) with the bazooka sub tube that came optional with the gen1. plus im able to use the trunk space with this setup and still have a little punch. btw, the bazooka has a built in amp which is a nice little feature that you can tweek per yer listening preference.

eitherway, keep researching and ask the members here. ;)

Thank you guys for your replies, yeah I def want "something where I can enjoy listening to quality sounds with separating the high, mid and lows?" Im not really one for showing anything off, I just want that "bose" sound (thats the only way I can describe the sound im lookin for). Plus, I need something that won't take up alot of space in the back cause thats why I got the car :) Im not tryin to go crazy I just want something simple that sounds good not muffled.

Super D, holy crap I just saw that woofer from JL and im like homer wishing he had a doughnut. (Drools uncontrollably all over the keyboard) hmmmm

Sierra Paint and Body isn't too far away, hah that might be a next yr thing lol

Hey one more question, Im sure that if I get the JL subwoofer I'll need an amp. Does it matter which one I get? Im looking at the one that crutchfield.com has to offer and seriously I don't even know where to begin. What would you recommend for a newb? I just want clean nice sounding bass. I also still have my stock speakers which I think are only 200 watts

If it were me I would go with a mono-block amp (single channel amp) such as the Alpine MRP-M1000. I am always a fan of going a little higher than the recommended Power rating and think this amp would be a great fit. If that is a little too expensive then go with a 2 channel amp such as the Kenwood Excelon KAC-x20 or Rockford Fosgate Punch P500-2. I think your best bet would be a mono-block amp though since it is made for bass and subs and is way more efficient energy wise in your car. Try other places besided Crutchfield too, I have found that they can be a little on the high side price wise even though they are great about giving you everything you need for a clean install. I have attached links for the amps I have spoke about.

Alpine MRP-M1000:
Alpine MRP-M1000 Mono subwoofer amplifier 1,000 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms at Crutchfield.com

Kenwood:
Kenwood Excelon KAC-X20 2-channel car amplifier 180 watts RMS x 2 at Crutchfield.com

Fosgate:
Rockford Fosgate Punch P500-2 2-channel car amplifier 125 watts RMS x 2 at Crutchfield.com

JL recommends the JL Audio 1v2 Mono amplifier for the enclosure. Here is a link to that amp as well although I think that it is a little weak for a sealed enclosure. If it were me I would go for a mono amp which has a power rating between 500-600 watts rms at 4 ohm.

JL Audio 250/1v2 Amp: Mono

Yeah I was asking my installer about that today and thats exactly what he suggested about the single channel plus I guess getting a new battery to make sure that i have enough power. Thanks bryanmundia I wll definitely check those links out!!!

I don't know about having to get a new battery. The car should be able to hold an mono amp without dimming the headlights. If it does dim the lights, try a capacitor instead of a new battery. If you need the name of a good car audio guy I can give you a couple in the Orange County area.

match the sub rms to the amp rms. you don't want to blow up toys unless you're that kid from toy story.
I tend to agree with you but I have learned over the years that even an amps rms wattage is high compared to what actually is flowing to the sub during a normal music session. The maximum amount of wattage is only acheived in optimal conditions with the music turned up butt ass loud. Also the sub in the box has a peak power handling of 1,000 watts so I think that getting an amp in the range of 500-600 watts will be fine (even if it is 600 watts) mainly because you will hardly ever acheive 600 watts from the amp for an extended period of time.

Sakura, that is the scariest avatar Ive ever seen. Im having seizures because of it :).

Hey guys, I thought I would ask, in addition to my woofer and amp question, if you were to upgrade speakers (something better than stock, im gonna keep everything JL) what would you get? Im looking at crutchfield.com just for ideas on whats out there.
